about

A very famous slow song from the Rodopi mountains, that was the thematic and musical thread for the beautiful film by Nikolai Haitov, “Krayat Na Pesenta” (1971). Tui studied the melody and ornaments with Svetla Stanilova and Elichka Krastanova, and arranged it first for vocal duet, then trio. These five verses describe the arc of an existential conversation between mother and daughter, as the daughter lies on her death-bed, in springtime - everything buds from the earth, as she prepares to go in.

lyrics

about

ACAPOLLiNATiONS New Zealand

On the premise that voices, cultures & rhythms cross-pollinate, this acapella trio performs hauntingly sassy adaptations of Balkan Polyphony, with an improvisation twist.

Zesty irregular rhythms, stirringly close harmony & the evocative voices of Tui Mamaki (French), Chelsea Prastiti (Greek) & Siobhan Grace (Samoan) / Sally Howe (Cook-Island), make this a rare and compelling musical moment!
